Nisha’s Little Buddies

IMG_1350On Monday 12 May 2014, the Frankfort Lions enjoyed a program presented by Nisha Marie Brown. Nisha is CEO of Nisha’s Little Buddies, an educational opportunity for kids ages three through twelfth grades. Her training programs are many and varied. Currently, she conducts her program at the Frankfort Park District.

Nisha migrated  to Frankfort from California and chose to settle here because she found the Frankfort environment most like her girlhood home.

Nisha believes in developing kids who are well-rounded and interested in community as are the Lions, that is why we found her program so fascinating.

After the program, Lion Steve Juveland formally opened the 2014 fund-raising drive officially deemed the “Wurst Festival.”

The “Wurst Fest” will be held on Thursday, 28 August 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fall Fest Entertainment (Beer Tent) tent on Kansas Street in Frankfort, Illinois. The Wurst Fest promises to entertain us with authentic German music provided by Die Musikmeisters Band and Frankfort’s own “Peter” from the Bier Stube,” The Fest will offer us authentic bratwurst sandwiches which we can wash down with Warsteiner Beer. What a night this will be.

The Lions, remembering the roots of the Fall Fest which began as  “Saurkraut Days,” promise to make the Wurst Fest the beginning of something even greater, and we know what the Sauerkraut Days evolved into.

Put the date on your calendar now Thursday, 28 August 2014.

Beloved Founding Father Dies

Al Krusemark

Albert H. Krusemark Jr. passed away peacefully on March 25, 2014, in his home of 74 years in Frankfort, IL. He was 98 years old and was cherished by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Bernice Weichbrodt Krusemark, in 2003, and his son Al Krusemark III of Frankfort in 2005. He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Sue Phillips of Urbana, Illinois, along with 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Al’s life was devoted to supporting and growing the community of Frankfort, and spending time with his many beloved friends and family. A member of the Bar Association for over 60 years, he served as the Frankfort Village Attorney for 11 years. Additionally, Al faithfully served Frankfort State Bank as a Director, President, and Chairman of the Board for over 47 years. As a founder and member of the Lincoln-Way School District #210 Board of Education for 12 years, he was also the driving force behind the construction of Lincoln-Way High School. In addition to all his accomplishments in business and community, Al somehow also found time to be an award winning dairy farmer, garnering numerous awards for his achievement from the Holstein-Friesian Cattle Association and President of the Pure Milk Association. Throughout his life though, perhaps Al’s greatest achievements were in his efforts as a dedicated humanitarian and family man. He served as the Charter President and an active member of the Frankfort Lions Club for over 50 years, while also teaching Sunday school and actively serving on the board at St. Peter’s UCC. In his spare time, “Krusee” enjoyed pheasant hunting expeditions, wayward boating trips to Cabbage Key and beyond in Punta Gorda, FL, and gin rummy marathons with his family and friends. As an alumnus of the University of Illinois he also enjoyed attending Illini football games even at age 90! Al’s life was spent in service to others, bringing joy and happiness to all that had the honor of spending time in his company.
Visitation will be at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, Illinois on Friday, April 4 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ 12 W. The Frankfort Lions Club is holding its Second Annual Cardboard Sled Derby as part of  Winter on the Green.  The Derby will happen on

Sunday, 26 January 2014, 1:00 P.M. til 3:00P.M.

Where: The Breidert Green at Kansas and Ash in historic Frankfort.

The concept is simple. Kids and their dads make a sled out of cardboard boxes and duct tape. The dad pulls the child in a side by side race against another Kid-dad duo. The event goes on whether there is snow or not. Either way we all have fun. The LIONS award some prizes and everyone has hot chocolate and cookies to warm up.

Build and decorate your sled at home using simple materials:

Material List:

1. Cardboard Boxes

2. Duct tape

3. White glue

4. Rope for pulling

5. Paint or marker pens

After the races, the kids can also kick field goals, and play one on one hockey.

What? Did You Say?

What? is a famous question word for someone with hearing impairment. If you find yourself responding with “what” maybe a hearing test is what you need.

The Lions hearing bus will be at the Frankfort Township building on Route 30 across from Kohls taking part in the Senior Health Fair from 8:30 to 11:00. a.m. on Wednesday 25 September 2013.
Maybe we can get a few of our SENIORS out to take advantage of the event and get their hearing tested for free!
